Masks are HUGE in beauty at the moment and it is excellent to see the high street coming out with some really high quality, sophisticated yet affordable products. The L’Oreal Paris Pure Clay Face Mask Range is an excellent example of these and there are three to choose from. Exciting!!
I am loving what L’Oreal are doing with clay at the moment. The Elvive Clay haircare range is brilliant and now they are bringing it with the face masks! Yay.

I am so excited to have these masks and each one is seriously appealing. Each pot contains 50ml and promises to deliver 10 treatments. They use three pure clays and then are customised with different ingredients to deliver different benefits.
Purity, Detox & Glow
The three clays are Kaolin to absorb impurities and excess sebum, the Montmorillonite to eliminate imperfections, and Ghassoul to clarify. Each one is designed to be applied in a thin layer, left for 5 to 10 minutes and then removed.
This mask uses the three pure clays with the addition of eucalyptus to purify the skin. It promises to work deep into the pores and leave skin clean and matte looking, without drying the skin. A week’s use (2-3 times) promises skin that looks mattified, cleaner and softer.
Along with the three pure clays, the Glow mask contains Red Algae which is known for its brightening capability. This one has a beaded, creamy texture to exfoliate the skin and illuminate tone. A week’s use promises tighter pores and refined texture.
It was hard to choose which one to test first, but I went for Detox because I think that’s always a good place to start. The texture is lovely – very creamy and soothing and it left my skin feeling ultra clean – I could almost feel it sucking the dirt out of my pores – yet not at all tight. Now I can’t wait to try the others.

L’Oreal brought out a range of three new face masks a few weeks ago, and since getting my hands on ‘the green one’ and testing it out, I thought it was time to let you know how I got on with the L’Oreal Pure Clay Purity Mask.
There are three masks in this new range; each with a specific benefit to a particular skin type. There’s the ‘Detox’ mask with charcoal which typically helps to detox and clarify the skin, then there is the ‘Glow’ mask which promises to brighten and exfoliate with the help of red algae extract, and finally there’s the ‘Purity’ mask, which claims to purify and mattify thanks to its key ingredient of eucalyptus.
All three masks also contain three ‘pure clays’ which have their own skin-loving properties, and the idea is that there is a mask for everyone, no matter what your skin type. And even though each one is semi assigned and targeted toward a specific skin-type, there’s no reason to stop you from trying out one or all three of the masks at any given point. (I will definitely be doing that soon as you’ll find out shortly).
So Boots are currently running a promotion where the masks are only five pounds (they are usually £7.99), which I think isn’t too bad value for money considering it’s a pretty decent-sized pot and the clay goes a long way. There was a little skin-type test on a promotional card in-store which is supposed to reveal what sort of skin you have by sticking a piece of card to your forehead, cheek or chin (method in the madness somewhere). After giving it a whirl, I found out that I apparently have oily skin….no newsflash for me there to be honest, it’s pretty much the bane of my life. But glad to see the little test worked anyway.

With that in mind, I opted for the green, eucalyptus-infused purity mask, as I thought that the mattifying element would be perfect to combat my daily shine.

The formula and texture of the mask is like any other clay mask really. There isn’t anything particularly ground-breaking in that respect. It’s a medium to thick consistency which feels very nice and cooling on the skin, and actually dries in a short amount of time, so no longer than ten minutes maximum I would say is needed before this can be washed off gently with warm water and a flannel.
Thoughts?
It’s a nice mask…and does what it says on the jar, literally. It really does mattify the skin but if I’m totally honest, I think it was almost a little too drying, as my face felt pretty tight and dry immediately after removing the mask. And for someone with very oily skin, I think that says quite a lot about the mattifying properties. I think for anyone with excessively oily skin, this will be your new best friend, but for those with normal to dry skin, I’d probably give this one a bit of a wide berth.
Saying that however, if you’ve had a breakout of spots or even just the odd one or two around your chin or nose, then this would be amazing at drying them out and removing excess oil. So I’m not going to rule it out completely, and will still keep on using it.
The one I’m actually most excited to try is the red ‘Glow’ mask, as I’ve heard from several other bloggers that it is super nourishing and moisturising on the skin, which is something my face could definitely do with right now as it’s been looking a bit lack-lustre lately. If when I buy and try the glow mask I’m really impressed by it, then I’ll pop another post all about it soon, but for now, I’ll stick with the purity one, and see how I get on with it.
